Jancis Robinson
Grower Champagne house founded in 1976 by Bernard Lonclas, located in the village of Bassuet. Chardonnay. Bone dry. RS 10 g/l. A little dry on the end. Not for neophytes but very lively. (JR) (9/2012)
K&L Notes
This is from the village of Bassuet is the eastern frontier of Champagne, 50 miles east of Epernay. This is a Champagne which shows off the Turonian limestone soil that this region is famous for. When I tasted this wine, I was shocked at how much Chassagne-Montrachet like weight and minerality that it had. The nose is full of the creamy, baguette toast that one would expect from a top quality Champagne, but it also has intriguing notes of coconut meyer lemon. This will make a great aperitif, but also pair very well with oysters or even lobster. -Gary Westby, K&L
